The Founder Story
Who are Ingela and Perry?
Ingela is an Emmy Award-winning producer. After working at MTV News Canada and on too many music videos to count, Ingela began producing news and short documentaries. The common problem she faced was the difficulty in finding ways to make space and center the voices of those who have been traditionally left out. Ingela channels that experience through This Must Be The Place; advocating for those voices to be at the center of the conversation, developing solutions not only for them, but most importantly with them. Ingela's past has shown her the importance of not assuming what people need; but instead the importance of asking people what they want.
Perry was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. As a youth in the early days of the opioid epidemic, he fell victim to a story that has been told far too many times around these parts. A product of the archaic mentality of punishing folks for their disorders and struggles with mental health, he ended up having to serve a 10 year prison sentence. During that time, he reflected on his missteps, found sobriety, and changed his life for the better, empowering himself through education and the principles of recovery. He earned his chemical dependency counseling license and graduated college. After reentering society, he went to work in Columbus, treating and serving those experiencing homelessness, mental health, and substance use disorders. Perry is a person who deeply understands the problems that the population faces, because he has walked in their very footsteps.
The result is a nonprofit unlike any other. Gone are the traditional boundaries that usually exist. We don’t ask for permission, we ask for forgiveness, we’ll be changing lives in the process. In the midst of a opioid epidemic that leave most with more questions than answers, we lead by example.
